NOT for. When to skip it.

We'd rather you keep your money than buy the wrong path.

  • Experienced AI governance professionals or lead implementers seeking advanced implementation depth will find this course introductory in level
  • Technical AI engineers or data scientists looking for hands-on machine learning or algorithmic training rather than management system knowledge
  • Those who require auditing skills for ISO/IEC 42001 compliance assessments, as a dedicated lead auditor course covers that content

What you'll be able to do

  • 1Explain the fundamental concepts and principles of artificial intelligence management
  • 2Describe the key requirements that ISO/IEC 42001 places on an AI management system
  • 3Distinguish the purpose and scope of an AIMS from other management system standards
  • 4Identify approaches and techniques used to implement an AI management system
  • 5Describe methods for managing and improving an AIMS over time
  • 6Recognise the roles and responsibilities involved in AI management governance

Day by day

Day 1Introduction to artificial intelligence management systems and ISO/IEC 42001
  • Core concepts of artificial intelligence and AI management

Participants explore foundational AI terminology and the rationale for managing AI systems within a structured management system framework.

  • Overview of ISO/IEC 42001 structure and purpose

This module introduces the layout of the standard, its intended use, and the high-level requirements it places on organisations developing or using AI systems.

  • Organisational context and leadership in an AIMS

Participants examine how an organisation's context shapes its AIMS scope and how leadership commitment supports effective AI management.

By end of day

  • Define key AI management terms and relate them to ISO/IEC 42001
  • Describe the structure and intent of the standard to colleagues or stakeholders
  • Explain why organisational context is relevant to scoping an AIMS
Day 2Artificial intelligence management system requirements and their application
  • AIMS planning, support, and operation requirements

Participants review the planning, resource, and operational requirements of ISO/IEC 42001 and how they translate into practical management activities.

  • Performance evaluation and continual improvement within an AIMS

This module covers how organisations monitor AIMS performance, conduct internal audits, and drive ongoing improvement in AI management.

  • Techniques and approaches for implementing and managing an AIMS

Participants identify practical methods organisations use to put AIMS requirements into effect and sustain the system over time.

By end of day

  • Map ISO/IEC 42001 requirements to observable management activities
  • Identify improvement opportunities within an AI management system
  • Select appropriate techniques to support AIMS implementation efforts

Everything inside this certification

The detail behind the headline. Read at your own pace. Each section answers a buyer question we get on discovery calls.

The ISO/IEC 42001 Foundation exam meets all of the PECB Examination and Certification Program (ECP) requirements and it covers the following competency domains:

  • Domain 1: Fundamental principles and concepts of an artificial intelligence management system (AIMS)
  • Domain 2: Artificial intelligence management system (AIMS)

The requirements for ISO/IEC 42001 Foundation certificate are as follows:

  • Certificate and examination fees are included in the price of the training course.
  • Training material containing over 200 pages of information and practical examples will be distributed.
  • An attestation of course completion worth 14 CPD (Continuing Professional Development) credits will be issued to the participants who have attended the training course.
  • In case of exam failure, you can retake the exam within 12 months for free.

Educational Approach

  • The training course provides both theoretical concepts and practical examples regarding the implementation of ISO/IEC 42001 requirements.
  • The training course contains essay-type exercises and multiple-choice quizzes, some of which are scenario-based.
  • The participants are encouraged to interact with one another and engage in meaningful discussions.
  • The structure of quizzes is similar to that of the certification exam.

Buyers always ask

Is this course suitable for someone with no prior knowledge of AI or management systems?+

PECB specifies no formal prerequisites for this training, making it accessible to participants without a prior management system background. However, a general curiosity about artificial intelligence and its organisational implications will help learners engage with the content more effectively.

Is the certification exam included with this course?+

Exam inclusion depends on the delivery format and commercial option selected. Check the booking summary or ask Cyber Academy for written confirmation before registering.

Completing the training, passing the applicable exam, and meeting the PECB credential requirements are separate steps.

How does this Foundation course differ from the Lead Implementer or Lead Auditor programmes?+

This Foundation course provides an introductory overview of ISO/IEC 42001 concepts and requirements. The Lead Implementer programme focuses on planning and executing an AIMS implementation, while the Lead Auditor programme develops the skills needed to audit an AIMS for conformity. Both advanced courses assume a working understanding of the standard that this Foundation course helps to build.

What exam domains are assessed if I choose to sit the PECB Foundation exam separately?+

According to PECB, the Foundation exam covers two competency domains: fundamental principles and concepts of an AIMS, and artificial intelligence management system requirements. Full details on exam format, available languages, and rules are published by PECB on its examination pages.

Will I be able to lead an ISO/IEC 42001 implementation project after completing this course?+

This two-day Foundation course equips participants to understand and describe AIMS requirements and identify relevant implementation approaches. Leading a full implementation project typically requires the deeper practical knowledge covered in the ISO/IEC 42001 Lead Implementer course.
